Matthew Brooks, P.Eng.
Bridge Group ManagerMy Role and Responsibilities
My name is Matt, Burnside’s Bridge Group Manager, and I oversee the design and construction of all municipal and private sector, bridge, and culvert infrastructure projects. I am also responsible for client management, implementing quality control standards, and the training and development of junior staff.
I joined Burnside in 2004 after graduating from the University of Western Ontario, and since then I have been actively involved in all aspects of bridge and culvert design including topographic surveys, CAD drafting, hydraulic modelling, structural design, tender preparation, and contract administration.
My broad knowledgebase and extensive experience allows me to develop design strategies to meet the needs of a diverse client base, which include private developers, lower tier rural municipalities, counties, and large regional municipalities. This diverse experience has enabled me to cultivate and maintain long standing client and contractor relationships, providing me with a comprehensive understanding and vision regarding our clients’ capital works objectives.
I have had the opportunity to be involved in unique and challenging projects, most notably the restoration of the rail trail bridge for the County of Grey. To maintain the aesthetics of the original masonry arch, we were required to source bricks from England and, through research and testing, were able to source the location of the original limestone blocks to replace the existing capstones.
My Interests and Hobbies
When not at work, I enjoy being active, participating in sports such as golf, football, basketball, and curling, travelling, and spending time with my young family.
