Ian Drever, P.Eng.

President

My Role and Responsibilities

My name is Ian, and I am the President of R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited, wherein I am dedicated to fostering an environment aligned with the values and practices that underpin our company’s success. Through active leadership, I am focused on sustainable growth that maintains and enhances our cultural foundation.

I began my career at Burnside in 1988, working primarily on land development projects in the Orangeville area. In 1993, I took on the role of Branch Manager for our new Brampton office, Burnside’s first entry into the GTA. While my focus was on growing our Land Development team and client base, I also gained experience on select projects for Municipal and Indigenous clients.

Over the last two decades, I have served in a senior leadership role, working primarily with land developers. During that time, I have been involved in a wide variety of projects for a number of notable land development clients, and I have developed particular expertise with respect to the Development Charges Act as it relates to engineering matters. I am qualified as an expert witness on water and wastewater servicing before the Ontario Land Tribunal, speaking specifically to development charge issues. Through my work and advice, several clients have been able to successfully settle many servicing issues prior to hearings.

My Interests and Hobbies

My enjoyment of sports and interest in my community led to a decade-long involvement with minor hockey in the Fergus area, where I managed several teams, and was a founding Director of the Grand River Mustangs Girls Hockey Association.

I have also participated on numerous committees at the municipal level in the Township of Centre Wellington and City of Brampton, and I am an active member of the Peel Chapter of BILD.

My spare time is largely filled with sports pursuits of almost any kind. I am an avid skier, but you can also find me playing baseball for our corporate team, hiking, cycling, and playing golf and tennis on occasion.
