Equipment Ontario specializes in the sale and servicing of farm equipment across Ontario. Looking to open a new dealership and service centre, Equipment Ontario leased a building from Ronandale Farms near Alliston, Ontario. Ronandale Farms and Equipment Ontario retained Burnside to provide engineering services for the renovation of the existing building to accommodate the new dealership’s needs, including the division of the building into three distinct sections (showroom and sales offices, parts storage, and equipment servicing).
Throughout the project’s planning and design phases, Burnside provided civil, architectural, and structural engineering services and coordinated with a subconsultant – McClellan Vitella Engineering – for mechanical and electrical engineering services. Burnside worked closely with Equipment Ontario to create a space that met their needs and helped optimize construction costs. To obtain a building permit, Burnside provided an updated site plan and servicing plans in addition to detailed design drawings for the facility renovation.
The architectural scope included a code review for barrier-free provisions, occupancy loads, and fire separations to meet Ontario Building Code requirements. To meet Equipment Ontario’s functional requirements, Burnside completed the structural design of a mezzanine and its supporting elements as well as modifications to the existing pre-engineered steel framing for the addition of an overhead door. Burnside coordinated directly with McClellan Vitella to design an upgraded hydro service, new plumbing, HVAC, and electrical distribution.
Burnside coordinated with the Contractor and McClellan Vitella during construction to complete periodic site reviews in addition to a final site review by each discipline prior to the issuance of conformance letters to close out the building permit.
