Burnside, in partnership with Van Pelt Construction Inc. has worked alongside Central Ontario FS – a leading agricultural co-operative – for many years for the redevelopment of several key agronomy centres across Ontario.
One such project involved a new fertilizer storage and blending facility in Ayr. The completed facility has a fertilizer storage capacity of 15,000 tonnes, a main storage area split into multiple storage bins and micro-bins, and a 200 tonne blender tower and bagging area for the mixing of custom fertilizer blends as required. Using a rodless bin design, this facility has large open storage spaces for the bulk storage of any granular material, allowing for easy access and maneuvering throughout the facility. Constructed primarily with reinforced concrete and wood, this facility is specifically designed for the harsh environment that fertilizer products can create.
The facility was designed to suit the specific functional and process related requirements for Central Ontario FS, allowing for efficient storage and use of the facility. Bucket elevators, conveyors, walkways and other conveyance equipment was integrated throughout the facility.
Similar fertilizer storage developments have been completed in Sunderland and Alliston with a fourth facility slated for construction in Drayton in the coming years. In addition to these facilities, Burnside has completed the design for various AWSA-certified chemical storage warehouses, bagged seed warehouses and office spaces to further support the Central Ontario FS agronomy centres.
