In 2011 R.J. Burnside was named as one of the 100 fastest growing A/E/C firms in North America. This is based on a North America-wide survey conducted by ZweigWhite (a US consulting firm focused on our industry) and looks at growth over the last three years.

Zweig Letter Hot Firm 2011

Two Canadian companies - exp. of Brampton, Ontario, and GENIVAR of Montreal -- were in the top 10 of the Zweig Letter 2011 Hot Firm List, which was published in September.

The Hot Firm List, compiled yearly by the U.S. A/E/C management consultants ZweigWhite, recognizes architecture engineering, planning and environmental consulting firms that exhibit the fastest growth in the last
three fiscal years. Rankings average percentage revenue growth and absolute dollar revenue growth during the period under review.

Exp was #2 and Genivar was #6 on the list. Other Canadian companies in the top 100 were: Stantec #12, MMM Group #14, Klohn Crippen Berger #42, Golder Associates #47, MTE Consultants #67, and R.J. Burnside & Associates #75.

Companies with a large presence in Canada that were on the list, included Tetra Tech #29 and HDR #43.
While attending the 2011 Deltek Insight User Conference in Nashville, Tennessee this past May, R. J. Burnside was presented with a Project Excellence Award from Deltek President and CEO, Kevin Parker. The award recognises excellence in the implementation of a Deltek product by a small to medium sized firm. Accepting the award were David Christiansen, Corporate Business Manager, Andrew Morris, Vice President – Operations, and representatives from Kennedy Vomberg, who assisted Burnside with their implementation of Deltek Vision.

Nominated by staff from Deltek, and our implementation partner, the award represents a significant achievement by the team having been selected as a winner from dozens of nominations from across the globe.

"Each year, we take great pride in recognising a group of leading Deltek customers at our annual Insight User Conference that have driven game-changing success with our solutions," said Kevin Parker, President and CEO of Deltek. "Our group of 2011 winners are some of the most innovative, successful companies in the world in their respective industries. We thank the winners for their partnership with our company, and we look forward to supporting these companies as strategic partners going forward."

When asked about the award, project leader David Christiansen stated "Winning an award like this is a great honour and it is nice to have the hard work of the implementation team recognised. But I would also be remiss if did not thank all the staff at R.J. Burnside for their constant support during the implementation and their ongoing support as we roll out new modules".

Pioneer Park Stormwater Management Facility Rehabilitation Project Wins Award

In May, the Town of Richmond Hill were the winners of the first Watershed Awards to recognize communities adapting to effects of climate change.  Burnside is the Prime Consultant for the project.

The facility is located in a Town park on Major Mackenzie Drive, through the middle of which flows the East Don River.  A small dam was constructed across the river in the 1980s, creating a small storm water facility to service the adjacent subdivision being built in conjunction with it.  The facility had developed structural deficiencies and did not operate as intended.

With a construction cost of over $4M, the rehabilitation of Pioneer Park is the largest capital works project ever undertaken by the Town.  The project has its origins in the late 1990s and Burnside was retained to complete the project in early 2005.  The project now is nearing completion and construction is to be completed by mid-summer, which is well ahead of schedule and within budget.

Despite the project being under construction, the Town has fulfilled requests from other municipalities and agencies to hold site tours.

In addition to extensive landscaping and trails, the expanded facility now provides fish passage, aquatic habitat, flood control and water quality control.  So far, the neighbouring residents, fish, birds, frogs, provincial / federal agencies and, most importantly, the Town all seem quite pleased with the way Pioneer Park has turned out.
