Geographic Information Technology Services
Custom Designed GIS toolsThe Burnside GIS division has developed powerful and user-friendly solutions that enable our clients' staff, regardless of GIS knowledge, to competently utilize and benefit from the power of GIS in their day-to-day tasks.
The GIS Toolkit provides powerful tools for spatial analysis and management of infrastructure assets within the industrial, municipal and private sectors. The toolkit has been built using ESRI's proven logic model, driven by a customized GeoDatabase that allows for optimum analysis and management. Current manageable sectors within the Burnside GIS Toolkit are the Route Patrol Manager, Roads Asset Manager, Land Use Manager, Notification Manager, Water Infrastructure Manager, Wastewater Infrastructure Manager, and Stormwater Infrastructure Manager. The GIS Toolkit offers a powerful working environment for all individuals from the GIS professional to the non-GIS literate. The Toolkit is designed to improve data analysis techniques and minimize data management time. The Toolkit system is built on a foundation of core tools to enable quick and easy searching, reporting and data management as it pertains to spatial asset management. These tools are designed to encourage GIS users to perform key tasks regardless of knowledge of advanced GIS techniques. t will also help to improve efficiency and minimize redundant tasks presented to the advanced user.
Route Patrol ManagerThe Route Patrol Manager (RPM) is a complete solution for collecting and managing routine and winter patrol data related to Ontario's Regulation 239/02 (Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways). In addition to allowing you to better manage road related deficiencies, complying with Regulation 239 shows due diligence and information gathered with RPM can be used as a defense against liability. RPM uses mobile (PDA or Laptop) technology in conjunction with ESRI's ArcPad software and a GPS receiver to generate a spatial data file identifying roads that have been patrolled and any related maintenance or safety issues. Municipalities can use this data to maintain records of collected data based on Ontario's road patrolling regulation standards.
Roads Asset ManagerThe Road Asset Manager is a spatially driven database tool that helps the municipality maintain a digital inventory of its roads and their related assets. It is from this inventory that the tool assists in the development of both prioritized capital improvement and routine maintenance schedules for budget development.
Land Use ManagerThe Land Use Manager assists Municipal staff in responding to questions regarding land use. Designed to work primarily with Official Plan and Zoning Layers, the Land Module can also interact with other layers loaded into the GIS to give planning staff an excellent understanding of the relationship between relevant datasets in a selected area. In conjunction with land use data the Manager will report on two layers, typically Official Plan and Zoning layers, but can be substituted with any layer in the GIS. This Manager also includes a tool to handle response to compliance inquiries. This tool allows staff to respond to letters using a customizable list of questions and answers, and adding follow-up comments. The tool maintains a list of people who frequently request compliance information (e.g. local lawyers and real estate agents). It also stores letters that can be retrieved later and modified and re-sent when required.
Notification ManagerThis package provides the tools for users to create notification letters as required by various provincial acts. The Notification module includes tools for generating severance, minor variance, zoning by-law amendments, public works, and any other Municipal notices. This module enables the user to create letters, and mailing labels based on spatial selections made in the GIS.
Water Infrastructure ManagerThe Burnside Water Infrastructure Manager will give municipalities the ability to map and manage records within their water infrastructure network. It is imperative that users are able to locate and record information on their assets quickly and effectively. This application will also allow the user to determine effects of maintenance as it ties into other areas, including sewer, roads and public notification.
Wastewater Infrastructure ManagerThe Wastewater Infrastructure Manager enables municipalities to have full control over information management with regard to their wastewater network in a full life cycle through the network. Users are able to manage the network status, records and history through easy to use tools for any level of GIS user. This application will also allow the user to determine effects of maintenance as it ties into other areas, including water, roads and public notification.
Storm Infrastructure ManagerThe Stormwater Infrastructure Manager will allow municipalities to share and manage their storm water network information throughout their managing group. Tied in with other networks, the Burnside Toolkit offers the tools that are available to appropriately manage the information for their storm facilities. This application will also allow the user to determine effects of maintenance as it ties into other areas, including water, roads and public notification. Additional TechnologiesEnquiries and Complaints ManagerThe Burnside Enquiries and Complaints management system (ECMS) is a database program for managing incoming telephone calls to a municipal office. This software was developed using Microsoft Office XP technologies, and will help your municipality get a handle on what calls are coming in, where they are being directed, and how they are being responded to. The ECMS allows all calls to be assigned to a particular department and to specific subject categories within that department. All transactions associated with a particular call are time stamped to maintain a timeline for the actions taken to respond to a call. All users logged into the system will receive notification that new calls have been assigned to them based on a user-defined time interval. Work orders can be created from open calls that create hard-copy documents that can be delivered to staff expected to complete the work required. An integrated reporting system allows municipal managers to create reports and graphs to better understand where resources are being used and to view the status of outstanding calls for their municipal departments. |
